In 1969 Malcolm Forbes fell in love with the Château de Balleroy which he bought in 1970. World-class hot air balloon pilot, he was the first to successfully cross the United States from east to west in a single hot air balloon. In 1975, he created the first international balloon museum in one of the outbuildings of the chateau.
